Fresh out of Sherman High School in 1983, Randy worked for Libby Owens Ford before building his first Custom Home in 1998. His experience at Libby Owens Ford helped him develop an understanding of service in working with clients to find the solutions they needed. He quickly learned the vast difference between making a sale and creating a client. He always remembered that valuable lesson in serving people.

In 1994, with help from a friend who was an electrician, Randy built a better house for his growing family. Like a home-cooked meal, he realized you get better value, better quality, personal choice, and more satisfaction. Another friend asked for some construction help, and he recognized he might be on to something for himself. With a well-established cousin specializing in concrete and foundations and plenty of local trade connections from friends, Randy completed the first official O'Brien Custom Home in 1998 and has continued since.

Early on, Randy found his personal happiness in home building, including remodeling, roofing, and all the parts in between. As a restless outdoorsman who needed to be outside and work with his hands, Randy found great satisfaction in seeing a family in a new O'Brien Custom Home. Randy says it's a unique sense of pride and enjoyment, like catching your grandmother's smile when you see everyone around the family table over her home-cooked meal.

There was that lean time in 2007-08 when the Housing and Real Estate market took a massive hit as corporate greed reached a new breaking point. Luckily, Randy brought his earlier car experience to Hoyt's (now Freedom) Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM. But he kept moving forward with O'Brien Custom Homes. Being part of the Housing industry, Randy understood better than most at that time how the Great Recession came to be. He was greatly disappointed watching how corporate America's values had devolved from providing excellent service to finding the most significant profit.

For most of us, there is a specific moment when our job becomes a career, and for Randy, it all came together right then. As soon as things settled, Randy put himself—full throttle—right back into O'Brien Homes, determined to keep his company values dedicated to people.
